this one dedicated to alice, one of the few ppl i know who still believes one person can make a difference.

"I fight cynicism. It's too easy. It's really boring. It's much harder to be positive and see the wonder of everything. Cynicism is a bunch of people who aren't as talented as other people, knocking them because they make them feel even more untalented." - Ewan McGregor

it feels like the summer i remember.

its afternoon on a weekday and im at home tinkering with the computer while listening to a rap mix tape i made in 1994 (nine-quat). gonna go run or swim later and curl up with a comic book or something. the weather is sick, i love it. this is the summer i remember from being a kid. my brother and i would run around the yard around 4pm and swim, wrestle, water balloons, super soakers, and then ride our bikes to get some ice cream and comics, and get back just in time to catch batman re-runs or batman: the animated adventures. then we'd play command & conquer or SNES til we got sick and shoot each other up with nerf guns just before we went to sleep.

i just went to toys R us right now like i usually do once in a while to keep up with what kids are into these days. what's wrong with this picture?

gameboy advance: $79.99
gameboy micro: $99.99
gamecube: $99.99
nintendo DS: $129.99

its a sad day when your flagship system is priced at the same level as one of your old school handhelds that havent been updated in 10 yrs. and when your bread & butter is coming from another handheld that is priced even higher than your main console, and the replacement you have in the works is a remote control hand wand with all the makings of an MC hammer/vanilla ICE comeback disaster. what happened to you nintendo? i loved you growing up and now you have fallen over yourself so much that i might find you in the back alley shooting up with the homeless junkie next to the trash can fire.

change or die! i forgot which management guru claimed this phrase. but the console industry really has changed. nintendo is taking a backseat, sega has taken a backseat and only makes games now. and who is helming the industry now? big software and hardware who did not specialize in video games. companies like nintendo, sega, atari founded this niche, but in the end they were beaten out by microsoft and sony... 2 companies that originally had nothing to do with the console space! microsoft's core competency is operating systems! sony had the walkman!

my god what is happening here. HP is also going from calculators to printers to computers to business solutions. unless the revolution pulls off some crazy shit, nintendo may bite the dust forever.

on sizing up ppl:

easier to do and more accurate for strangers that you can judge objectively. much more difficult to do with ppl you have deep personal relationships with or long history, also difficult to tell if people have changed when you spend alot of time with that person.

goodbye san diego!
